WELCOME TO SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY'S ENERGY ENGINEERING INSTITUTE

Overview of the Energy Engineering Institute

This institute is established in 1985 with the primary objective of enhancing the interaction and cooperative applied research opportunities with government agencies, other research institutes, and regional industries on subjects related to energy. Undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from Mechanical, Civil and Environmental, and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments are involved in obtaining solutions to various problems posed by sponsors. Research projects are often incorporated in to the course curricula as senior projects and/or master's theses. Institute research areas cover a wide range of fields such as:

  • combined heat and power systems,
  • renewable energy resources, wind, wave, solar, etc.,
  • optimization of energy systems,
  • building energy use and load simulation, HVAC, etc.,
  • combustion modeling,
  • optimal design methodology,
  • environmental issues related to power generation,
  • energy management and end-use research,
  • control systems,
  • performance monitoring,
  • optimization of power generation facilities,
  • international energy generation studies.
